![]() Domaine du Nizon Estate Bottled Chardonnay Estate bottles by Christophe Valat, from the small rural town of Nizon, near Pont-Aven, in the Avignon region of France. This wine is a lovely and unique expression of chardonnay. Lovely nose and palate of apple with sweet, cool, racy fruit. Enjoy as an appertif, with grilled chicken and salads. Wine Myth Placido Pinot Grigio The biggest mistake wine novices tend to make, is to assume that color is an indicator of flavor intensity. The truth is, color is fine to admire, but you can have a dishwater-hued pinot noir packed with rich flavors. You can also have an inky dark cabernet that is bland and one-dimensional. The only method for determining the intensity of the wine is also my favorite method...you just have to drink it! |
Move over Champagne and Caviar. Among the word's most indulgent and sensational food and wine combinations is surely a premier Cru or Grand Cru White Burgundy, especially an opulent Puligny-Montrachet or Chassagne-Montrachet with lobster drizzled with butter. When the sweet, rich creaminess of the wine meets the sweet rich meatiness of the lobster, well, if you don't die of poverty first, you'll die of pleasure. - "The Wine Bible" Karen Macneil ![]() Having a dinner party and not sure which wine to serve with that special meal? Call the staff at Fitger's Wine Cellars for free advice. We'll be happy to make some suggestions. Here's a few ideas! 1) Match Strengths...Powerfully flavored dishes require wines of equal fortitude. Herb crusted leg of lamb would match well with a Super Tuscan (Sangiovese & Cabernet Sauvignon blend) from Italy, or grilled steak would go great with a California Cabernet Sauvignon. Or... 2) Opposites attract...The spicy cuisine of the Pacific Rim needs a light, somewhat sweet wine to off-set fire in your mouth. Rich cream or butter sauces are well matched with an acidic "cutting-wine". Here's a party hosting tip from "The Everything Wine Book" "Cheese makes almost all wines taste better, and this is especially true for cheap wine, so if you are serving wine at your event, make sure you have cheese and crackers, not M&M's and pretzels." |
